Robin

I drew this Robin is based on a photograph my friend Allison took. I loved the detail and it looked very Christmassy, so after framing the finished drawing I made a run of Christmas Cards with a gold foil rim which look extremely festive.

Starting the drawing with an outline and light layers of pencil to map out colours and direction of feathers.

At this stage I'm building up the texture of the feathers with fine detail, and beginning to lay down the rough background shapes.

Here I'm darkening the foreground and adding the detail of the berries and foliage.

Here I've kept the background slightly blurred to give the effect of foreground and background.
